Installing nothing

What runs where, and why that matters for security and for work machines.

Do I really not need to install anything?
Correct. There is no .exe, no .dmg, no APK and no browser extension. Everything happens on this page and on the server behind it. Close the tab and nothing remains on your computer except the file you chose to save.
Why avoid downloader extensions?
A browser extension that can read YouTube pages generally requests permission to read and modify data on websites you visit. That is a broad grant, extensions change hands, and a popular one turning into adware after an ownership change is a well-documented pattern. A web page cannot request any of that.
Will this work on a locked-down work or school computer?
Usually, since there is nothing to install and no admin rights are needed. The limit is your network - some workplaces block the destination YouTube serves files from, or block this kind of site entirely. Check your organisation's acceptable use policy before relying on it.
Is anything stored on your server?
Files that need merging are written to a temporary location, sent to you, and deleted immediately afterwards. Files that do not need merging never touch our server at all - your browser is redirected straight to YouTube. We keep a short request log of the URL, format, IP and timestamp for rate limiting and debugging.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for, no email is collected, and there is no free tier to upgrade out of.
Is a web tool slower than a desktop app?
For a pre-merged format, no - you are redirected straight to YouTube and download at full speed. For a format that needs merging there is a short server-side step first, which a desktop app would perform on your own machine instead. The trade-off is a wait of a few seconds versus an installation.
