What is the highest quality I can download?
Whatever the uploader published. If a video exists in 4K (2160p), 4K appears in the list. The tool never upscales and never re-encodes - you get the exact stream YouTube stores.
Why do some formats say "Merge" instead of "Direct"?
Above roughly 720p, YouTube stores video and audio as separate streams. A "Direct" format already contains both and is handed to you straight from YouTube's servers. A "Merge" format has to be recombined with ffmpeg first, which takes a little longer and is why large files do not start downloading instantly.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs entirely in your browser - there is no extension, no desktop app and no account.
Is there a limit on video length?
There is no hard length limit, but very long videos in a merge format take proportionally longer to prepare, and requests are capped at 10 per minute per IP address to keep the service responsive.
Can I download private or age-restricted videos?
No. Private videos, members-only videos and age-restricted videos all require a signed-in YouTube account, and this tool does not sign in as anyone. You will get a clear message instead of a download.
Is downloading YouTube videos legal?
That depends entirely on the video and where you are. Downloading content you own, content in the public domain, or content released under a licence that permits it is generally fine. Re-uploading or redistributing someone else's copyrighted work is not. You are responsible for what you download.
